PROJECT 4: SELF TITLED

MODULE INFORMATION BOOKLET

LECTURE

REFER TO WEEK 10

PROGRESS

For this final project, it is called self-titled. We were required to create a 15-minute animation with our own portrait using Adobe Photoshop as well as Adobe After Effects with all the knowledge that we gain throughout this entire semester learning with Mr. Fauzi.

  • This is the biography about us that we had to fill in the google slides that was prepared.

  • The idea briefing for the animation that I was going for. I've decided to go for a vintage 90s inspired type of animation.

  • These are the posters I got from Pinterest to use it as an inspiration.

  • These are the two sketches I've picked out of all the sketches I did to use as a guide before carrying on to photoshop.

  • I tried using two types of background and play around with the placement of all the elements. I chose the black background for my final.

PHOTOSHOP & AFTER EFFECTS PROGRESS

  • Images that I used for this task.

  • I used this picture as the background of my poster as I like crumpled teared up newspaper at the corner of it.

  • I used the selection brush tool to select all the part I wanted to cut out.

  • After selecting everything, I went ahead and used the select and mask tool to define the outer part of the main selection.

  • I copy and paste the crop out image into the background. So, the portrait will play a role as the focal point in this poster.

  • I applied the same method as the one I did before to all the images and arrange them to how I wanted it to look.

  • This was the final outcome before going into After Effects.

  • I exported the file into After Effects to start animating it.

  • I decided to hide every element whenever I'm editing one element as it helps me focus on that element better. For this element, I decide it's the best to rotate it at 45 degrees. I kept the 0 seconds at its own degree and at 10 second it is going to finish rotating to 45 degrees. After the 10 second hits, it will slowly rotate to its own place.

  • As for all the elements as well, I repeated the same hide and seek method for me to edit. But I applied different transition to each one.
-   Disco ball - Rotation
-   Lipstick stain - Scale
-   777 - Position
-   Cherry fork - Opacity
-   Flowers - Opacity (appearing in different time)

FINAL POSTER & ANIMATION

  • OVERVIEW OF THE DESIGN:
The poster theme goes as a lucky girl night out in New York in the nineties. I created this artwork using Adobe Photoshop and After Effects. In the meantime, TikTok and Pinterest provided me with the most of my ideas. I came onto the topic about lucky females' mentality while scanning both of my social media accounts. I therefore made the decision to merge the themes of Lucky Girls with New York Night Out. The feeling I'm attempting to portray is similar to seeing oneself in a jazz club on a girls' night out after midnight, enjoying an espresso martini. The poster I made is the result of everything.

REFLECTION

Upon completing this final project, it was both challenging and rewarding. It was challenging only at the first step where I need to decide on what kind of theme I want to go for. After that it was pretty easy to carry out the whole task as I had enough knowledge to do everything from all the lecture and practices that Mr. Fauzi gave us. Not only that, all the tutorial videos that Mr. Fauzi gave us was also very helpful for me. In conclusion, it was really fun, and I am grateful I got a chance to learn all of this.

OBSERVATION

After completing this task, the observation I made was finding the right element to match with the theme that I was going for was crucial. I tried putting some elements in such as bright yellow colored flower, but it was not matching the theme that I was going for at all, so I removed it. Not only that, the sizes of all elements must be also relevant to make sure it doesn't take the focus away from the main focal point because the other elements that are not supposed to be the focal point is just a prop.
