RECOLORING

MODULE INFORMATION BOOKLET

LECTURE

For lecture this week, we learned about poster designing. Mr. Fauzi also provided a slide for us in google classroom to read through it.

the fundamental principles of design are:

  • EMPHASIS
example for principle of design emphasis: poster with violin guitar on stage

  • BALANCE and ALLIGNMENT

  • CONTRAST: creates space and difference between elements in your design.

example for principle of design contrast: black panther cat design

  • REPETITION: repetition in designing posters is absolutely acceptable because if there is one thing odd out in the poster, it will be seen as an error.

example for principle of design repetition: vertical numbers and text design

  • PROPOTION: the visual size and weight of elements in a composition and how they relate to each other.

example for principle of design proportion: vintage designed poker run poster

  • MOVEMENT: controlling elements in a composition to make it have more eye soothing flow.

  • WHITE SPACE: can also be known as NEGATIVE SPACE. it is an empty space around the posters that allows the posters to have more room to breathe.

TUTORIAL and PRACTICAL

For this week activity, we had to follow the tutorial video on YouTube that was given to us by Mr. Fauzi. it was about recoloring black and white images. the first one was a picture of a man that we had to recolor. after that we had to download images that was provided and had to follow the step that was given on the video. in addition, to make our skills better we were required to do another extra one from all the images provided with the same method that we did on the precious images.

for this second image we were provided with 3 pictures that we had to download.

the first step was we need to make a color palette for the skin and hair. so, we use the eyedropper tool to choose colors from the images that was provided.

using the selection brush tool, I first choose the area that I wanted to go for first which was the hair. I slightly selected all the areas that has hair.

after selecting the areas, I masked the selected area then change the setting to overlay as you can see at the image above. After that, using the refine edge brush tool I just brush along the edge if the selected areas, it really helped a lot because it automatically chooses the very small pieces that is very difficult to select.

after that, I created a new solid color layer and mashed together the image that was masked.

for the next few steps, such as the face, shirt and background, I repeated the process that I did for the hair except for the face I made some changes to the hue and saturation to make it more of a skin tone.

the next step after the hair, face, shirt and background was done, was to create a new layer of solid color and then select that layer and press on the keyboard ctrl+i.

using the brush tool, I just colored the lips gently make sure it looks almost perfect. I also repeated the steps for the earrings.

REFLECTION

This week class was very enjoyable. Once again, I got to learn to use a lot of new tools while learning how to recolor a black and white image. In my opinion, it was not too difficult for me as I follow step by step from the video that was provided but I need to say I had trouble looking for some tools because the photoshop that I use has updated to the newest version compared to the one that was in the video. except for that everything went well as I really understand what was there to do.
